6 days Iceland trip with kids

Hi All,
Can you suggest a good itinerary with 2 kids age 7 and 4.5 for Iceland trip in July for 6 days. Here is what I was thinking:
Day1- Arrival early in the morning. Explore Reykjavik and blue lagoon.
Day2- Golden circle. Stay night in Reykjavik.
Day3- South coast- Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, black sand beach. Stay in Vik.
Day4- visit the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and Diamond beach. Stay in Hofn.
Day5- Hofn to Akureyri- long drive- Not sure to drive from Hofn or fly to Akureyri from Reykjavik?
Day6- Explore Akureyri and Lake Myvatn?
Are Vik and Hofn decent places to stay overnight?

Thanks

I would not head back to Reykjavik after the Golden Circle since you are planing to be back in that area the next day. Wasted time, etc. Vik and Hofn are both fine places to stay. I would not want to make the drive from Hofn to Akureyri in one day though, especially with young children. That is a REALLY long drive! You cannot trust Google maps for drive times in Iceland as you need to add significantly more time. Can you add at least another day between Hofn and Akureyri?

Yes, it is. I have not done that though so can't give any first hand advice for that.

ok how about I add a day trip to Snæfellsnes peninsula from Reykjavik instead? Is it possible to cover in a day?

Focus your trip in the south and east part of the country. You are trying to do waaay to much in such little time, and with two young kids. You'll need to build in some non-driving time for your kids. There are community playgrounds and pools all over the place that they would enjoy.

It is possible to cover Snæfellsnes peninsula from Reykjavik in one very long day. We took a tour and it was about 10 hours.

Leave Reykjavik, do Golden Circle, stay in Selfoss, go to Vik stopping at the waterfalls and beaches along the way, (careful of the sneaker waves!) maybe go as far as Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and Diamond beach, then head back to Reykjanes Peninsula before heading to the airport.

After Selfoss, next night I am planning to stay in Vik. For the night after should a book a stay near Jokulsarlon glacier? How long does it take to explore Jokulsarlon and Diamond beach?
Thanks

How long you take to explore Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and Diamond beach really depends on you. We found the "diamonds" fascinating, and your kids probably will too. Take a boat ride on the glacier lagoon; check out the amphibian boat tour.

Regarding your question about where to stay near the glacier lagoon, I suggest that you look at a map. On Google Maps you can zoom in and look for the bed icon for lodging. There is no lodging "near" the lagoon.
