2 nights, 3 days in late May- what should we do?

We'll have 2 nights and most of 3 days in Iceland in late May. Is it worth renting a car, or should we just stay in Reykjavik and do day tours? Thanks for any advice-

Where are you flying in from? If it is a long haul flight/overnight then jet lag is real so keep the first day to a minimum such as just exploring Reykjavik on foot. Then rent a car for the other 2 days and skip a tour. Easier and faster to do that yourself. Blue Car Rental is who we have used on several trips.

This gets discussed a lot on both the Travel Iceland Facebook page and the TripAdvisor Iceland forum. Lots more participation there than on this Rick Steves forum.

Agree that part of the answer is what time and where do you arrive from. And what time does your flight leave on the third day. You could do the Blue Lagoon or Sky Lagoon on your first day and spend the night in Reykjavik. Then drive the south coast to Vik or Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon for the night and head back to Keflavik on the third day. Driving is really easy in Iceland.
