A few restaurant and excursion reviews from our recent trip.
--Sægreifinn in Reykjavik. We went there for lunch and it did not disappoint. No printed menu, but a wall of skewers and you just point to what you want and they cook it up for you. We had the lobster soup, ling cod, scallops, potatoes and veggies, all shared. Everything was wonderful!
--Íslenski barinnin Reykjavik. We had dinner here and did not want a full meal, so this had great options. Several of us had the lamb soup that the bowl was in a wool cozy and then on a wood platter with bread. The others had the lamb dog, which is not a regular hot dog, but more of a pulled pork style, but lamb. Everything was very good!
--We used https://vesturadventures.is in Grundarfjordur for a kayak fishing trip and absolutely loved it! It was recommended by a fellow poster here on RS, and we were thrilled with it! It is all catch and release, but between the 5 of us we caught 25 cod! The guide was excellent and a lot of fun.
--Thermal baths. GeoSea and the Secret Lagoon were our two favorites. Myvatn was our least favorite as it was just way too crowded. Blue Lagoon was great, as we were there when they opened so fewer people.
--Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon zodiac tour. A must!!! We were out in the lagoon when the guide spotted a chunk of the glacier calving, so he raced us over there and we got to watch the entire thing unfold! From a safe distance of course;) We also saw seals, including one that was lounging on an iceberg. Masks are required on the boats.
--Bustarfell Turf House and Museum--Excellent! We almost did not go here as it was out of the way, but I really wanted to see it. We were all glad we made the detour. It was fascinating and beautiful. They have a cafe there as well with desserts and drinks, but not lunch items. Excellent blueberry pie;)
--Vogafjos Farm Resort restaurant. Excellent! We had both breakfast and dinner there and absolutely loved everything!
--Ingolfsskali Viking Restaurant. Excellent! We had dinner there and aboslutely loved it! The host/owner is very friendly and obviously loves Iceland. He was a joy to interact with. We even tried the fermented shark and Brennevin, although the shark was more palatable than the Brennevin;) We wanted to do the axe throwing, but the target I believe, was broken so that was not an option the night we were there.
