Hotel Reykjavik Centrum

Warm to the point of being unbearable, even in chilly summer weather and even with windows open to the max. We were sweating in the room with temps in high 50s and low 60s. Nice and helpful staff with a couple of exceptions. Great location and decent breakfast buffet. Shower/tub slippery, awkwardly designed, and extremely hazardous. We both consider ourselves to be very lucky not to have slipped and fallen in shower. Staff very helpful and responsive with email questions. If we ever stayed here again. I would insist on scopimg out the room beforehand to gauge warmth of room and inspect shower setup. Some aspects of hotel look to be poorly designed and in some cases extremely hazardous.

We were to stay there just this past week, but our itinerary changed. My husband did stay there last August and had no issues at all and loved it, FWIW. Did you turn down the radiator and/or open the windows? This is very common in Iceland.

Hi, mikliz97. Nice to hear from you again. I think you're lucky to have avoided this hotel, at least in the junior suite we were staying. We are in Oslo now and what a difference in hotels, in our environment, and in our corresponding attitudes. The window would only open partially and this was not due to a malfunction. It was just a poor design ( or perhaps the rust in the window frames which we observed). We didn't see a radiator and if there were one I don't think it would be turned on anyway as the the daytime temperatures were in the 60s. It might have been our room that was the problem. Our son stayed in another room at this hotel and although this room was hot too, it was not as unbearable as ours was. We did request a fan from the front desk and the small one we were given helped just minimally. There are some good things about this hotel, but a lot that is not so good. Since we have moved on to Oslo in the hotel in which we are currently staying - all I can say is what a difference to the good.

Harwood--My husband loved his stay there last summer, so it is still on our list for when we come back next summer. I was in Oslo last August and our hotel was fine, a Thon Hotel, so sort of like the Center Hotels in Reykjavik. We have had such great experiences in Iceland, and just got back a few days ago. I am sorry that you were less than pleased with the hotel, but hope the rest of your trip goes well.

Thanks, mikliz. If you stay at the Hotel Centrum, I would check out the room first and stay away from the Junior Suite with two floors, the top floor of which was the bedroom. That is the type of room with which we ran into trouble. As I said before, there is a lot good about this hotel, but heat, dangerous stairs, and a dangerous shower present unacceptable hazards and discomfort. Our trip in Oslo was been outstanding for the first three days. Hotel Continental is pricey, but superb. I would highly recommend it. Beside the usual high quality amenities, the breakfast buffet is about the finest we have encountered in our multiple trips to Europe.
