Guidebook recco for Hotel Laekur--Close enough to South Coast attractions? Other reccos?

Hello. I'm finding myself quite charmed by Hotel Laekur near Hella, a guidebook-recommended South Coast boutique hotel. The hotel website lauds itself as a good base for South Coast activities, but some attractions are an hour's drive. We're traveling with 3 adults and trying to share the same room/space (rather than multiple rooms) and accommodations have been a bit trying to find. Has anyone stayed here and traveled back and forth to go to the Westman Islands, Vik, Katla Ice Cave, etc? Or do you have other recommendations? Maybe it could be a warm, 1-night welcome as we arrive and travel east to another accommodation for 1-2 more nights. Thoughts?

Hello. I wanted to send an update on my findings. When I learned how far away Diamond Beach was from Hella, I decided to book Hotel Laekur for one night upon arrival as I proposed and made plans for 2 nights in Vik. I guess I will need to reach out to the R.S. organization to provide feedback that it seems Hella is prohibitively distant from some South Coast locations, even though it was presented as a good location and that it would be helpful if the guide made that clear and provided some options. I'd still love to hear others' perspectives!

My son and I stayed last May at Hotel Selja for two nights on the south coast and it was lovely! The rooms were clean and bright and the setting was gorgeous! Really great location to all the south coast sights. We went to the Westman islands one day and the ferry is like 15 minutes away. It is down a gravel road about two miles from the main road and we were not too sure about that at first, wondering if we were lost. You can see the glacier and the waterfall from your room if you get the Mountain View room. http://www.hotelselja.com/
It is a place Rick would like. Comfy, clean, great location and nice staff!
