What's needed for "Free Travel" within Budapest

According to the BKK site, there is a category headed "Free Travel" that is separate from the category "Pensioner pass." If I am interpreting this category correctly (am I?!), this class requires NO transit "pass" - only the appropriate ID (e.g., EU passport confirming age 65+).

Has anyone had experience using this "free travel" option?

I checked the BKK website and don't see the Free Travel you're mentioning. I believe someone recently posted that they were told by a hotel staff member that they could ride for free as they were over 65, and they were penalized, which can be costly. You can always ask at a ticket window if this somehow applies for a US citizen.

Yes, James' link is the one I'm looking at.

I understand this is for EU passport holders (i.e., my spouse) and not me (US passport).

We will check at the kiosk when I buy my 72 hr pass. Thanks!

As I've reported in another thread this DOES apply also to US passport holders. Both I (US passport) and my spouse (EU passport) are covered for free transit, confirmed on several trips yesterday. It does pay to be 'old' (in years).
