Updated 2027 Budapest Events

Right now, just a list of the often repeated events taken from last years list. A few 2027 dates shown in BOLD, but not many yet; and none of the special one-off events yet.

JANUARY

  • 1: ❤️🤍💚National Holiday | New Year Day
  • International Circus Festival https://budapestcircusfestival.hu/hun.html
  • 18: ✡️Anniversary of the liberation of the Jewish Ghetto. The Presentation Ceremony will be at the Dohány Street Synagogue. Anticipated start time is 10:00, followed by a Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Ghetto Memorial Wall and Liberation Plaque on Wesselényi Street. https://mazsihisz.hu

FEBRUARY

"The ballet Spartacus is nothing if not a spectacle. The enormous cast, the dramatic love story, the tragedy and Aram Khachaturian’s score are components enough. Give it a live orchestra (...), the Hungarian National Ballet and a venue like the Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest and it’s difficult to imagine anything other than splendour." Deborah Weiss, Bachtrack

The historic Gundel Restaurant appears to be filling the gap in the social calendar created when the Opera House conceded to public pressure. The debutants need a place to come out, and I guess this is now the place.

And I may be the only person crazy enough to fly to Budapest in February for the Spartacus ballet, which runs Feb 5 - 18, not every day.

This is a different production than the Bolshoi stages. I don't know other companies that will try it...?

The choreographer is Hungarian. The Hungarian ballet company is so athletic, I can't wait to see their production. Yes, I have my ticket!

CW, this is great. I wanted people to contribute. I added both above.

While you are here for the Ballet, it you havent been to the Mohácsi Busójárást Festival you should try it. The easiest way to get there is the special MAV train on the 7th. But there are other trains on other days, they just require a change. The special train is sort of fun and the MAV people do a good job to make you feel special. But everything and I do mean everything is in Hungarian. This isnt marketed to tourists. Its for the locals first.
