Up Hotel In Budapest

There have been a number of posts about which hotel in Budapest. There are a lot of really wonderful hotels, and it all depends on what you are comfortable with and how much location is a priority and the cost that you are wanting to pay.

I got a question yesterday about a hotel that I had never heard of but the location was intriguing so I thought I would pay it a visit.

Called "Up Budapest". The location is catty-corner from the Hunyadi Square Market. The Hunyadi Square Market is one of the old market halls in town (there are about six in all). Not nearly as large and grand as the Great Market Hall, but more local. On Saturday mornngs the farmers come to town and set up outside the main entrance on the edge of the park. Really nice time to visit.

The Hotel is 156 rooms in a fairly recently renovated building with a new addition put on the top floors. Streets are narrow enough in Budapest that you can walk past buildings for years and never notice the vertical additions. They apparently removed all the architectural embellishments on the lower floors during the renovation, but still looks nice. This one is about 146 euro for as standard double in October. https://uphotelbudapest.com/

The lobby is really quite lovely and I suspect the rooms match what is in their website photos. Its a very nice place. But what really makes it work is the location. You are about 3 blocks from the House of Terror on one of the prettiest stretches of Andrassy ut. Being close to Andrassy ut means you can use the M1 to reach most of the sights in town, or make the walk, cause Andrassy ut is beautiful. The neighborhood is quiet, but you are close to Kiraly utca which takes you to the Deportation Ghetto. In the other direction on Kiraly utca you are not far from one of the best untouristed streets full of amazing architecture in town.

The biggest problem with the location is the side street comes out on to Andrassy ut between the M1 stations at the Oktogon (300m) and Vorosmarty tér (100m). But I could live with that.

And its close to two of my favorite restaurants Kiraly100 and Ferdinánd Monarchia Étterem

This is only a recommendation for the location,. Check the reviews and the prices they look very good on Booking.com and TA. I took some photographs. Didnt get any inside as those on the web page appeared to be accurate. https://1drv.ms/f/s!Ai7Zk-szxfTJi95Z5OQGEa_MgutWRA?e=HEnvaC

In the same general location is the Eurostars Ambassador which looks to have a few more amenities and might be a little less expensive and retains more of the old world charm on the outside.

Thank you, Mr. E!
Is the location of this hotel better than Hotel Moments?

The Hotel Moments used to be a great deal with great prices. But with success comes price increases. Sort of steep for Budapest now. The prices at the UP Hotel are what the Moment prices use to be.
I haven’t stayed at either so I am just talking about location and price.

MOMENTS
If your stay is 4 nights or less
If you do top 10 tourism
If staying on the grandest avenue in Budapest adds to the enjoyment
If you want to be amongst lots of people
If a being in a period building adds to the enjoyment https://youtu.be/BrcAgy6U7B4?si=zFi6_q0XWnXsPStG
If you are over 50
If you have mobility issues
Cost is less of an issue (October $195 to $450 – obviously has to do what rooms are available on what night)

UP HOTEL
If your stay is 4 nights or more
If you like to wander beyond the top 10
If you want to stay in a more typical neighborhood
If you like a quieter setting
If you like a clean sort of mid-century modern atmosphere https://youtu.be/6moxbF0LBWI?si=OeeoMB9EmfwF6zMZ
If you are under 50
If you will be there on a Saturday morning in warm(er) weather
If cost is important (October $107 to about $150 a night – wonderful price)

EUROSTARS AMBASSADOR
Also worth a look. But I have never been to it. Same general location as the UP Hotel. Maybe I make it there in a few days. https://www.eurostarsambassador.com/?referer_code=lb0gg00yx&utm_source=google&utm_medium=business&utm_campaign=lb0gg00yx

I will probably stay at Hotel Moments. The price difference is $25 per night. Even though I prefer to stay in a quiet neighborhood, the location of Hotel Moments seems to work a little better for us.

My husband and I just spent 6 lovely nights at the Up Hotel. We both agree it was one of the best hotels we’ve stayed at in Europe. We would definitely recommend it.

When deciding which hotel to book, I looked at both the Up Hotel and the Hotel Moments. I decided on the Up Hotel for two reasons. First, price. I could get a bigger/better room at Up Hotel for less than the least expensive option at Hotel Moments. Second, location. I really liked that Up Hotel had a small park across the street. It was a short walk to the M1 Metro stations and from there we were able to get to all the sites we wanted to see.

We had a Terrace room on the 6th floor overlooking Hunyadi Park. Our room was spacious with a king size bed and lots of outlets for recharging devices. The bathroom had a large, walk-in shower with a door that sealed shut, so no water on the floor after showering. There was also lots of space for toiletries and a rack for drying towels. We really enjoyed the terrace overlooking Hunyadi Park and spent several evenings there unwinding after a busy day of sightseeing.

The area was very quiet at night, but during the day the park was filled with families, children playing and folks just enjoying the outdoors. Every morning there was a fresh produce stand at the park and on Saturday, it included a flea market. We cut through the park many times on our way to and from the M1 metro station which was only a couple blocks from our hotel.
We took Mr. E’s recommendation of 2 of his favorite restaurants and were not disappointed. Ferdinánd Monarchia Étterem was very close to the hotel and they had the best goulash soup. We actually ate there 3 times and enjoyed every meal. Kiraly100 was also excellent. We tried the Stuffed Cabbage and agreed it was the best we’ve ever had. And just a few blocks away, close to the Oktogon metro station, there was a street with dozens of little restaurants to choose from.

I would highly recommend the Up Hotel. It was one of the nicest places we’ve stayed at in all our travels thru Europe. The location was perfect and the room was fabulous.
