I'm confused about the best way to see everything in the Buda Castle complex. I'm finding many different ticket vendors and finding the names confusing (for example Castle Museum vs Budapest Museum). Can anyone give me some advice on the easiest way to schedule the day and buy tickets? I plan to be there all day and conclude my day with a concert in Matthias Church at 7 pm (already have tickets). Should I just use a company like GetYourGuide, or get tickets from the official websites? I didn't know this day was going to be so hard to plan out. Maybe I'm just making too much out of it....?
A full day on Castle Hill is an ambitious goal.
Normally I like to take the funicular up and then walk down through the Várkert Bazár but if you are staying past sunset then the funicular both ways (only RT tickets are sold) or you might want to take the bus back to Pest. You can do that from the bottom of the funicular or from the top of the hill https://bkk.hu/en/travel-information/special-and-heritage-transport-services/funicular/ A yet better idea if the sun is setting is to take the tram tour and see the lights. The exact route depends on where you are staying or where you are going next for dinner. But in general the 19/41 Tram up to Margrit Island and then the 4/6 Tram across the river and the 2 Tram back down the otherside of the river. 45 minutes maybe and the best views of the lights of Budpaest.
They did manage to complicate things with tickets. That is probably the result of some of the Germanic influence on the culture left over from the days of the empire.
All the tickets can be bought in person if you don’t want to fool with on line purchases. Depending on the time of the year and time of the day I would suspect you will have no trouble buying at the location. I always have. But no guarantees.
Budapest History Museum (BHM) / Budapest Castel Museum and St. Stephens’s Hall
The official pages are here: https://szentistvanterem.hu/hu and https://varmuzeum.hu/en/ticket-informations/
St. Stephens Hall requires a reservation. You can do that and buy the combined ticket at the ticket counter. Or you can book the combined ticket here: https://szentistvanterem.hu/hu/jegyinformacio The 4.500 ticket will get you into everything. I looked for today, and plenty of time slots available. So this maybe can be done on the day you arrive. But …..

I don’t know that you can buy the observation level / tower tickets (not a necessity anyway) on line. But there is a ticket office as you approach. Here is information on the costs: https://fishermansbastion.com/fishermans-bastion-prices
What did I miss? Something, I am sure?
Oh the Labyrinth. Okay, sort of hokey, but here is the website if you want: https://labirintus.eu/
If you are into war history, then a tour might be in order as they take you to the positions and explain the siege. That wouldn’t be a waste of time for me. But if that sort of thing isn’t to your interest then …..
Thanks Mr. E. My husband is very interested in WW2 history so we will try to go on one of those labyrinth/cave tours.
No, not one of those cave tours for WWII history. Go to Viator or Get yout Guide and look for a WWII tour of the Buda Castle District.
