Traveling to the Amalfi Coast

Hi, my husband and I will be traveling to the Amalfi Coast in September and we are looking for the easiest way to get to Amalfi. I did some research, but found it a bet confusing. We don't want to rent a car, would rather take a train is possible. Also, we are thinking of getting a hotel in Amalfi and doing day trips from there to the various places of interest. Does this sound like a good idea? Is there local tour groups we could be part of?

First, the Amalfi Coast is in Italy and you've posted in the Hungary forum. You may want to delete this and repost on the correct forum. Lots of folks here are knowledgeable about Italy but don't look at the Hungary forum.

Do you want to stay in Amalfi town, or another town on the Amalfi Coast or do you want a nearby base that is more accessible? There is no easy way to get to Amalfi (town or coast in general). The trains go to Naples and Salerno. There is a commuter train (like a tram) that connects Naples and Sorrento. To get to any of the AC towns, you have to take a bus or ferry. There is regular service from both Sorrento and Salerno. It's also possible to arrange a private transfer from Naples to Sorrento or the AC.
