I am planning a geneology trip to Mateszalka in Eastern Hungary this fall and am meeting up with cousins in Budapest. Our time is very limited and we need help with:
1. Transportation to Mateszalka
2. A translator
3. Someone with knowledge of history of Mateszalka
4. Someone to help find geneological information for my mother's family in the area. Most of the local information I have found relates to Jewish families which does not help me find my family.
Sorry, I don't have any advice for genealogy research. If the cousins who you will meet in Budapest actually live in Hungary, then they would be your best resource.
WikiTravel has some standard visitor info. Since Mateszalka is served by train, you could get there easily, but if you want a car during your stay, you would rent it in a larger city or an airport. The town also does not appear to have a TourInform office.
Thanks, Laura. Yes, it would be very easy if the cousins were living in Hungary. They are not anywhere near. I am hoping to find as much information as I can get and arrange before leaving for the trip. It doesn't seem to be very easy though.
Start with:
Andrew Illes http://www.guideinbudapest.com/
or Aliz Toka http://www.omnilingua.hu/rolunk_e.html
Tell either that James that lives on Vasvari Pal utca sent you. If one of them cant meet all of your needs let me know. I have a couple other names that are also very good.
James
Thank you, James. I will be in touch with Aliz quite soon and am hoping she will be able to help. If not, I will get back to you.
I am in a business where I come across people in this field fairly often. These are my two favorites right now. But if neither work out, I do know others.

I sent a note to Aliz this morning and am waiting, hopefully for a reply.
