Travel to Hungary

Hi

I have been traveling all over Europe with Rick's walking tours on my phone as my guide. I am going to Hungary and cannot find anywhere his walks, example Leopold town walk. Are these only available in the book? I don't see them in the audio or podcasts. Please let me know.

Hi Ceci, I like the RS walking tours, as well. I'm assuming you have the RS Audio Europe app on your phone? I got so used to using the app for walking tours in Italy that I was surprised there are not as many for other countries. If you go to "Explore Europe" on the app or on this RS website, you can find what is available for Hungary. https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/hungary. Under "Listen" there are about 15 "talks". I see that just one of them is an actual walk, "Budapest River Walk". Unfortunately, that seems to be it.

It's been kind of fun to walk around various towns doing the walking tours with the RS guide in hand and run into others doing the same.

If you are looking for other resources, you can listen to the saved Monday night travel shows.

I hope you have a nice time in Hungary. I've only been to Budapest, but I really loved it.

EDITED TO ADD: I just found this. It is a list of all available walking tours. And the Budapest River Walk is not on the list, so I'm not sure what's with that. I did listen to the start of the walk, and it sure does sound like his other "walks"

Also look at planning your own walking tour. But let me stop you right there. You may not want a “walking” tour, you may want to see more and maybe have a little more fun by doing a Walking and Tram Tour.

The advantage of the self-planning is it can begin and end at your place of accommodation and might result in less back tracking then piecing together several generic walking tours. Ive done this for a number of tourists over the years. Its sort of fun to put together and you can use it to learn about what you are going to see in advance of the walk.

But the generic walking tours are great tools in building your own map.

Here is a decent walking tour through Buda’s district V: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=17RjnnRBuGYeJsQd_BfrOeTDYY5s&ll=47.49861167992768%2C19.048594500000036&z=15

They have a few other free maps, but they don’t show the exact walk, just the numbered stops. https://www.bigboytravel.com/europe/hungary/budapest/

Here are other sources. If you try one out let me know how well it works and if there is some cost associated with it.

Or you could just follow the BigBus routes

Also there is a post where those who will be in Budapest this year have let their dates be known in the event that anyone wants to meet up. ON the same post I try and put up things that are going on in town on those dates. (i am a little behind on the updates).
