travel to/from Eger & Pecs

We will be staying 7 nights in Hungary. I'm thinking about renting an apartment for a week, sacrificing one or two nights in seeing Eger & Pecs. So, my question is if on day five we travel to Eger or Pecs, staying that night in one and the next in another, is train travel between the two easy or does one have to travel back to Budapest first? And does allowing a day in each make sense if we have the remainder of our time in Budapest?

I am researching places to stay in Budapest close to Andrássy út, able to accommodate 8 - five in my family and friends most of the time.

You will have to travel back to Budapest to get from Eger to Pecs. I would break it up and spend a few days in Bpest, then do an overnight by train to Eger, then a few more days in Bpest and an overnight by train to Pecs. An apartment for 4 a block or two each side of Andrasy ut need not cost more than 60 euro a night so the cost of an unused apartment for two night divided by the number of people is pretty minimal; and it convenient to leave everything behind but an overnight bag. Sorry I don't know of any 8 person apartments that I would rent. The few I have seen have tiny living spaces so its got to be like everyone waking up in a closet. You will have a better time I think if you rent two 4 person apartments in the same general area.
