My husband and I wish to travel from Pecs Hungary to Graz Austria.
The train takes 8+ hours :(, and rental car rates starting in Hungary into Austria are very high.
Are there any private shuttle services that are recommended or more direct travel options?

There is no faster method by public transport. Just Googling shuttle vans does reveal some in the 250-400 euro range:

Because all (nearly) railroads lead through Budapest. In other words the most "direct" train goes from Pecs to Budapest and then to Graz. If you can arrange your schedule to be in Budapest before you go to Graz its a 4.5 hour trip. I have used BudapestTransfer.com and the best I can say is that they were adequate, but not bad. If I couldn't find anyone else I would use them again.
