What is the best way to get from the airport to our hotel?
Thank you!
The best? Limo with a hot tub in the back!!! Second best, or at least what I do, is take a taxi. $20 to $30 and about 35 minutes on average.
In the baggage claim area you will see a black line painted on the floor. It says TAXI. Follow it out of baggage claim, through the arrivals hall, and out the doors to the curb. On your left is a FoTaxi kiosk. Go to the window and tell them where you want to go. They will give you a receipt with the maximum cost for the ride printed on it and a taxi number. Twenty feet a way at the curb someone will make sure you get in the right cab and help you with your luggage. The taxi takes Credit Cards, Euro and Forints (and probably dollars). For the best rate pay in Forints or with the credit card.
Happy Travels....
Depends on where you are staying. I took the 100E bus for about $3 (900 HUF). Am staying and loving Hotel Gellert.
The 100E stops at the Gellert?
Actually, this question always comes down to defining "best". From cheapest, to fastest to most comfortable. The bus is indeed excellent, but a bit longer with wait times and you generally end with a good walk or a transfer to a tram as I assume you did. The shuttle vans are about half the cost of the taxi, but could take significantly more time if your stop is near last. All are good options. If you go to the airport website they are explained.
In the airport there are van companies that for a relatively small price will take you to your hotel, assuming that it is not in the pedestrian zone. Just look for their counter.
If i recall correctly there is a painted line on the floor of the arrivals hall for the van service too.

I love to save money and will always take public transport from an airport or train station whenever feasible, but I must say that when in Budapest I always take a taxi to/from the airport. I was there this May and saw the airport express bus twice, and both times it was jam-packed with people, standing room only. That's not how I like to travel if at all avoidable, and this was at 3 pm and again at 8 am.
Also, if you will arrive on RyanAir I would highly recommend NOT booking the shuttle through Ryan Air -- the other alternatives are better!
100e bus does not stop at gellert but it was an easy walk.
where is your hotel? i'd get the address and see if there is a metro station near by. the 100E bus is very cheap and it's only 20 min you're in the town center, from there you can taxi or metro to the hotel. note - no uber in budapest. if you're on the buda side there is no metro, need to take tram or bus.
The M2 (red) and M4 (green) lines both go to the Buda side.
The M2 and the M4 do both go to Buda.
The M2 connects in the very center of Pest and will get you to Batthyány tér which is from which you will need a tram to get anywhere. Or a bit further up to Széll Kálmán tér a mere 10 minute walk to the front of the Castle.
The M4 isnt the most convenient tram in Pest, but does connect with Szent Gellért tér in Buda, from which you can catch a tram.
Not impossible, fun even if you are in town for an extended period of time. But if time is short, stay in Pest.
My advice in any city is to take a taxi. We are budget-conscious and try to keep our expenses low, but trying to save money on getting to your hotel from the airport is just not worth it. We have tried pre-arranging shuttles, we've tried taking the train. And we travel as 8 people, so that means two taxis (sometimes extra fees too for all that baggage) and I STILL recommend taking a taxi.
