May I know the reliable Train/Bus connection between Zagreb and Budapest ?
Should I book in advance the train or can just buy directly on day of travel?
I have heard that buses are infrequent and some companies like Orange Bus do cancel often, etc!

If you want a direct train then it leaves Zagreb at 14:30 and arrives at Budapest at 21:14. For other options check Deutsche Bahn website.
Trains are reliable; no reason so suspect any cancellation.

I'd highly recommend reserving seats in advance. This route is popular with the backpacking crowd, and 2 years ago in July it was packed. It was well worth having reservations!

I can't book this online in DB (bahn.de) . So probably have to book at Zagreb station a day before?

Just to add to my previous point , while checking bahn.de website , I see this info:
"For connections outside of Germany, a special ticket is required. These offers are not bookable via the internet.
Tickets may be purchased in any DB ReiseZentrum..."
So can I purchase this ticket in one of these cities - Munich, Salzburg,Ljublana, Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar, also? (as I intend to pass through these cities ) before Zagreb.
