Hello, I know there is a tram just off the Chain Bridge that takes you to the Buda Castle. Near the tram, the gates looks like there is no person to sell you tickets. I heard that there is a office close to get tickets and assume a person can sell you tickets.
It is a funicular - trams tavel on tracks embedded in the streets.
The lower ticket office at the base of the funicular is near the tunnel that goes under the castle hill. It's actually a substantial building - you can't miss it - there will most likely be a line of people waiting to purchase tix. Note that they sell only roundtrip tickets.
Lest there be any doubt, you can also get up the hill by bus at a fraction of the cost of a funicular ticket.
Ok, Want to thank you so much for the replys

There are also stairs (free). The most interesting stairs / walk / path begins at the Castle Garden Bazaar (Várkert Bazár). There is also a series of elevators along the route.
From Deak Ferenc ter in Pest you want Bus 16. It's free because you got a TravelCard for the duration of your stay. Or you are over 65.
Note - the funicular is not part of the public transit system, so is not free for over age 65.
Mr. E means Bus 16 is free for those with a transit card or who are over 65. The overpriced funicular certainly is not.
Thank you acraven, thats sort of what I said. But after I messed up the where to after Vienna thread understanding, who am I to complain. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction on that one.
While Budapest is generally an inexpensive place to visit, Castle Hill isn’t. A day on the hill if you do the high points can cost nearly 29.500ft (full price no discounts, nearly $90). But you couldn’t begin to do it all in a day. Pick what interests you and the day is probably about half that. Some have senior discounts but some of those are only valid for EU citizens. The good news is the prices help to keep the tourist crunch under control.
- Funicular: 5.000ft Unfortunately they only sell round trip tickets these days. I think it’s best to ride up and then walk down to the Castle Garden Bazaar (Várkert Bazár). So half the ticket wasted.
- Fisherman’s Bastion upper observation deck: 1.500ft. The observation
deck is not essential for a good visit. And if you want a Western
European priced cup of coffee with a good view there is a café up
there that will save you the entrance fee.
https://ugyfelablak.budavar.hu/HBticket/web/ - Matthias Church (Church of Our Lady of Buda Castle): 3.100ft or 4.700ft with audio guide. Tower is 3.700ft additional. Really nice and really worth the time.
- Castle History Museum: 3.800ft. A very remarkable museum and worth the time.
- Hungarian National Gallery: 5.400ft. You could actually spend a lot more if you went to all of the temporary exhibitions, but you couldn’t do that in a day.
- Hospital in the Rock: 9.594ft. Also surprisingly interesting. Well worth the time.
There is also a very interesting medieval Shul on the hill. Last time I went there was no charge, and I cannot find any current price information. Worth the time to go take a look: Táncsics Mihály utca 26
Maybe you were looking for the tram to the funicular?
