Looking for recommendations of had copy tourist maps for Budapest for trip planning purposes and negotiating city while there. Readability, compactness, tourist sites, and mass transportation routes are key factors. Thank you for your help.
DK Eyewitness Budapest Top 10 has a manageable sized laminated map pull out a pocket in the book. Cant remember if the tourist spots are identified on the map, but i can look next week (out of town for a few days) The guide is good too. Otherwise Google Maps and a list of places you want to see.
The trouble is the city is large and there is a lot of public transportation and s lot of things to see.
I have a page out of a guide that might help you. Shows the principal transit lines for tourists and locates most of the sights on the transportation routes, but doesn't show the streets. But, again, next week before I can copy and send it. Would need an email.
Thank you again, Mr. E. Made it to a desktop, so I can post reply now. Sent you a PM.
Hello from Wisconsin,
When we first started going to Budapest there were NO maps except in the subways. I took photographs of the subway maps and made my own 'tourist friendly' map. If you want a copy ask me at [email protected]. I will email you copies. I have it on one page as a pdf with the back filled with suggestions of what to do in Budapest. I have a second copy which is in Microsoft Word. Yes, how primitive was life. I used Word to draw the danged thing.
A mass transit pass for four days (good on busses and the subway) or how ever long you plan to stay along with my map and you are set to see the city.

Thank you, Wayner. Very nice of you.
If your stay is 1 day, get a 24 hour travelcard. For 2 or 3 days a 72 hour travelcard. For 4 days or more, a 15 day travel pass (which only costs a few hundred forints more than the 72 hour card).
