Staying near the Terror House in Budapest, and wondering what suggestions anyone would have for nearby restaurants with the best Hungarian food. Thanks
You are a bit far out, but not bad, best of all you are on the M1 Metro Line which will open all of Budapest to you. But because of your location, get a TravelCard.
Here are some of my favorites. They all are mostly Hungarian on the menu except for Zing Burger, Café Vian, Lancelots and Hachaupri. And I could make the list 5 times longer.

5 VAKVARJÚ ÉTTEREM
Was once my standby for an unplanned meal. Gotten so popular that you need a reservation. There is a new one in District 13 that is actually better atmosphere. Both have piano players but are sort of casual in every regard. Not American trashy, "european casual"

Thanks for this list (with all the needed info). We'll use it this summer.
What a great list! Thanks for taking the effort to post that. I am going to print to .pdf and take it with me to Budapest this summer.
Im not a huge traveler. Ive been to parts of maybe a dozen countries in Europe; and none, not Paris or Rome, have as many quality food places per square km as does Budapest.
That list just scratches the surface and is just a few places within reasonable distance of where we stay when we are in town.
Wow! Great list of recommended restaurants, James E. I'm taking note, too! Thank you!

I can vouch for James' suggestion above. After a visit to St. Stephen's, we wandered over and had an excellent meal at a great price (we thought) with prompt, courteous service. Highly recommended!
Hungaricum Bistro for quality, old-school Hungarian food. Zeller Bistro for fancy. Trofea Grill for an affordable buffet where you can try everything out to figure out what you like.
We had many excellent meals during a week in Budapest but our favorites were at Hungarikum Bisztro. We went twice. Welcoming, friendly service and excellent meals reasonably priced. We don’t choose restaurants that require reservations when we travel, but adjusted our game plan in Budapest where it seemed they are practically mandatory. Honestly, we’d have gone another evening as well but couldn’t get a seating. Our hotel phoned in our reservations. If you go, take the little booklet they offer...their recipe for goulash soup is wonderful! Safe travels.
