Our college student and her friend are visiting us from the US. We just moved to Hungary and are still not too familiar with the area and what would be best to show them. They have 10 days here and are on a pretty tight budget. They are flying into Vienna. We live about 1 1/2 hrs from Vienna and Budapest. They definitely would like to see both those cities, as well as Venice, and if possible Florence. Any suggestions for accomodations and itineraries? (We are a concerned for their safety as they are girls and will need to use trains or public transportation to get around.) Thanks for any feedback!
They can do day trips to Vienna and Budapest from your place. There is a direct train from Vienna to Venice early morning (6:22), takes about 7 and half hours and one direct night train. From Venice to Florence there are many direct trains. Eurostar (italian superfast train) takes about 2 hours. From Florence back to Vienna is only one direct train and that is overnight. Otherwise with train changes. For itineraries and accommodations I would recommend Rick Steves book: Italy. For train schedules Deutsche Bahn website, to book train OeBB website resp. Trenitalia website.
