Has anyone been in Budapest on All Saints Day? We are hoping to attend St Stephens or Matthias Church for mass in the morning and ( respectfully of course) participate in some of the cultural traditions of remembrance. Can anyone share their experiences? I know that most stores, restaurants, etc will be closed down, so we've planned our trip itinerary accordingly. Thanks.

Most restaurants will be open except the mom and pop ones. Bath houses are open. Public transportation runs on the holiday schedule, The tour boats stick to schedule. Probably more open but you need to check each thing of interest.
The big event other than mass is visiting the cemeteries. I suggest Fiumei Road Cemetery.
MUPA has a concert:
Two masterpieces of French sacred music from the end of the 19th century: Gabriel Fauré's charmingly beautiful Requiem and the elderly Charles Gounod's Clovis Mass make up the program of this concert hall celebration, and among the movements of the latter work, the audience can also get acquainted with four other gems of the Gallican movement of church music, one composition each by Alexandre Guilmant, Louis Aubert, Camille Saint-Saëns and Théodore Dubois.

I suggest Fiumei Road Cemetery.
That's a great suggestion from Mr. E. I really enjoyed my visit to that cemetery and I'm sure it will be more special on All Saints Day. It really was lovely and so unique. It's an easy tram or bus ride from the city center.

Not really sure where the city center is but its about a 10 minute walk from Keleti train station.
Its a huge cemetery full of great funirary art and crypts. All the important people are planted there. Expect to spend a few hours.
I would do the concert too.
