Sim Card for Data

I will be in Hungary for a week, arriving on a Sunday. From looking online, it seems that Magyar Telecom isn't open on Sunday. I need a SIM card for data. Is there a way to buy online and simply insert it into my phone when my plane lands? Sorry if this seems like a silly question or if it has been answered before.

You can purchase one of the 3rd party VOIP sim cards like these: http://www.telestial.com/international-sim-cards.php I used them many years ago and they weren't great. I also purchased a Hungary TMobile (now Magyar Telekom) prepaid sim once and it just wasn't worth the effort for as little as I used it. I think I am paying $10 a month for the TMobile international service which provides phone calls for about 40 cents if I remember correctly, free Data and free Texts. Its not the best data speed but I understand that for another $10 you can bump it up (go to TMobile and check me on all of this. Its been a while since I paid much attention to my bill). You can sign up before you leave and cancel it when you return. For better data connection you can always use the hotel Wifi. You shouldn't be using it when out and about. You are supposed to be looking at the sights, not your phone.

Good point - I will put it on my device and not my teen's. I definitely don't want her constantly contacting her BFFs back home. She just needs it for when we aren't in our hotel and has to get online to "attend" a couple of her classes. I will look into the options you mentioned. Thanks!

The last time I purchased a prepaid sim card in Bpest it took about 30 minutes and a passport ID. I got mine at the TMOBILE at the WestEnd Mall by Nyugati Station. Round trip was another hour. So, so much easier to just phone TMOBILE in the states and say "turn on the international plan" (if you have tmobile). Also remember someone else's sim card will only work in your phone if you have an unlocked phone, and most of us dont.

I chatted with T MObile this morning and it looks like that will work for me. Fortunately I do have an unlocked phone!

I have used my TMobile international account from Istanbul to the UK to Russia and all points inbetwee; with nothing but very good success. Its easy and it just works.
