Ruin Pub

Hello!

We are traveling to Budapest at the end of March with our 13 and 10 year old. I know traditionally, ruin pubs are NOT family friendly and are geared toward nightlife. Are there any that are open earlier in the day where we might be able to stop in for a beer/glass of wine and the kids could join us? Just hoping to get a glimpse of this unique aspect of Budapest. Thanks!

Yes! We visited Szimpla Kert in the daytime for a beer, and were able to walk around a look through all the rooms without a crowd there. 90% sure there were people with kids there.

I dont much care for kids in bars cause then i have to watch my language and topics of conversation. But most are open for lunch and the kids are not forbiden. . The bars only get sketchy in the evenings. .

Ruin pubs are like many taverns everywhere - they serve food and drinks. In Europe, many taverns are family -friendly. They are not biker bars or dive bars like in the big cities of the US. I'd take the kids.

Actually Ruin Pubs are no longer barely legal or outright illegal popup bars in abandoned buildings. They are well established corporate businesses with a certain style and good marketing departments. But they are still fairly uniquely a Budapest thing and well worth the time to visit.

As to the clientele, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings they are packed with drunk and obnoxious and screaming European trust fund brats. Actually a lot of District VII has gotten this way in recent years.

Not sure if they are bikers or into scuba though, good point.
