River Cruise Stop In Budapest

Hi! I am in a group of 4 Americans (two couples in our 60s) travelling on a Danube Cruise with the "Nicko" Cruise Company, which caters more to Germans. I speak German decently but the others in my group do not. As such, we don't plan to participate in any of their guided tours, as they are conducted in German. We will stop in Budapest at noon on 1 Oct and depart at noon on 2 Oct. None of us have ever been to Budapest. Looking for recommendations for sightseeing in that short timeframe. Are the free (with tips) sightseeing tours worthwhile? Any recommendations on inexpensive live classical music venues (orchestra, quartets, etc) Tips on getting from docking port to worthwhile sights, etc. I have never cruised before and not used to being in a city for such a short time. Thank You:)

We were on a Riviera cruise which started and finsihed in Budapest. We docked very near the centre. However, not all ships are the same.
We had a classical sring quartet on board for the night we were there - they were very good,

Budapest was our last stop on my river cruise. Our arrival day we docked in a very central location and were able to walk to many sites. There is good public transport which is free for seniors.

Then, late that evening we cast off and cruised along the river enjoying all the lighted buildings. Truly a beautiful sight! We then docked on the opposite side of the river, further away from the central areas to facilitate disembarkation and embarkation for the next cruise the following day.

troy.dimmig, look at your information and see if there is any indication of a pier address.

Historically they dock in Pest District XIII which is not great. But it can be overcome. Right now, through the 19th, I am traveling. When I get home I will look up some options for music and a route to enjoy that and see some of the city.

Until then consider this:
October 1. Thursday. 20:00
Gustav Mahler
Symphony No. 8
Hungarian State Opera.
