Review of Danubius Hotel Helia-Budapest

Has anyone stayed at this hotel? Is the Pest side the better place to stay? Looking for a hotel in centrally located to sights and transportation.

Thanks!

I don't know this hotel, but for being centrally located, the Pest side is definitely preferable.

The hotel is in Pest, but not exactly in the center of things. It is in District XIII which is one of the more desirable places to live. I always think of Deak Ferenc ter as the center of things that interest most visitors in town. Deak Ferenc ter will be a 10 to 15 minute walk followed by a 5 to 10 minute Metro ride on the M3. The closest of the Top 10 is the Parliament which will be about a 30 minute by foot or metro/foot.

Not too far away is a pretty interesting market hall at Lehel tér and there are some interesting restaurants and one really nice cukrászda that I am aware of in the nearby neighborhood.

The hotel chain is the decedent of an old communist era State owned hotel group. Overall they get very good reviews for good solid accommodations.

Personally, I would stay somewhere more convenient.

Look in Districts VI and VII close to Deak Ferenc ter. You can spot VI and VII by the hotel zip code. It will be 106? or 107? You will notice a loop road that runs through Deak Ferenc ter. The side closest to the river is District V while outside the loop is VI and VII divided by Kiraly utca. District V is the traditional tourist district. Wall to wall tourists and river boat cruise crowds, but other than expensive shops not a whole lot to see except at the north extreme (Parliament) and south extreme (Great Market Hall).

If budget is an issue, move a little further out, but stay close to a metro line or a tram line. The public transportation in Budapest is easy, convenient and is actually part of the experience.

If you are going to stay 3 nights or more, an apartment is the best value.
