We'll be in Budapest on October 23, Republic Day. Will most restaurants be open for dinner?

jerry.slaff, you will find open restaurants in the city center that serves the tourists. The local mom and pop places will be closed. Make it a special dinner night by making a reservation (in September) at a very nice place.
It is an excellent day to be in Budapest to watch the festivities and most of the museums will be open.
Since October 23, 1989, this significant day has been a double national holiday in Hungary: the day of the outbreak of the revolution in 1956 and the day of the proclamation of the Hungarian Republic in 1989.
The Hungarian Republic Day is celebrated and commemorated by various events, including wreath-laying ceremonies, memorial services, cultural programs, and historical exhibitions commemorate this day
