It's been many years since I have been to Hungary, where I used to live and teach English. But it seems like I should get to planning a return trip soon.
Been away for political reasons?
Kim, it would be a fantastic time to go now with Viktor Orbán's defeat in the election today! I am so excited for Hungary!
So nice to see the huge crowds celebrating in jubilation over the election results. Im sure traffic was at a standstill in the central areas of Budapest tonight. We'll end our river cruise there in early November. We may just stay now for a couple of extra days.
Hey, when you go, Andrea and I got a great tip to go wander the lobby of the Four Seasons and have a drink. 🤣
For tourism the big take away for me is the quality of the people and the resulting safety of visiting here.
Imagine two groups of 200,000+ with absolutely opposing view points, meeting a mile apart to make their voices heard, going home together on the same metro. No windows broken, no looting, no burning cars, no police attacked. I can't say no arrests, just dont know, but none in the news. Tonight, more of the same. That's evidence of a civilized opinionated but orderly society. I would feel safe in every country that exhibits the same behavior.
I will say, that Hungarian democracy worked as the laws and constitution intended for it to work. Countries that operate under rule of law I suspect are safer destinations for travel.

Will Orbán's barber be released from jail?
