Pecs vs. Eger

I’ll be in Budapest at the beginning of March and I’m planning on a day trip to either Pecs or Eger. What are some recommendations for either place? Which place will be better to visit in early March?

I was in Hungary in 2008. On that trip, I did overnights in both Pecs and Eger, and I much preferred Pecs. The fact that it rained for much of my Eger day had something to do with that, but overall I found Pecs more interesting. There are several good museums as well as the synagogue, and the town itself is attractive. Of course, Eger has the camera obscura (I had previously only seen these in movies, like A Matter Of Life And Death).

At the time, Rick's book covered Eger but not Pecs; I learned about it from Frommer's and Lonely Planet. Now he covers both, so you can see if one seems more appealing to you. Unfortunately, he doesn't have TV shows on these places, but YouTube should have some clips to show what each one looks like.

Pecs is more "interesting" on general terms and has very interesting history and buildings.
Eger has the wine country and an interesting central square.

Both good.
