Operettszinhaz schedule for May is up!

Posting because I know several forum members will be in Budapest in May--I've been checking every day for the Budapest Operettszinhaz schedule for May to be posted, and just bought my ticket to see Maya on 5/11. This will be my 3rd performance and I must say their productions are just wonderfully fun & top quality--I saw the Duchess of Chicago and last year Singing in the Rain, which is on during May along with the Merry Widow and several other shows. I paid $14 US for what would easily be well over $100 for a similar show/theatre experience here in the SF bay area, plus I get to be surrounded by Hungarians...

I love the Operett theater in Budapest. Ive see maybe 6 or 8 shows over the years. I was supposed to be there April 26 through about May 8th, but stuff happened and i have to work. So, with a bit of luck I am going to be on a plane on the night of the 30th with the destination of Odesa. Cant go to Budapest cause the place is booked that week. Unless I can bunk with you?? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. It would be good to see you.

Unlike the theater in Vienna or Prague; the theater in Budapest is still primarily for Budapestians. So you still get immersed in the culture a bit. I remembe the last opera i saw in Prague, everyone in the audiance was speaking english.

Exactly my experience at the opera in Prague--box for 5, surrounded by tourists, had a great chat about opera with the Japanese couple next to me and we all shushed the German couple behind us who kept talking during the performance.

I'm at the Medosz Hotel on Jokai ter again, just 2 blocks to the Operett, but couldn't get the enormous room with a terrace this time so trying a deluxe room instead. The excellent breakfast makes up for the outdated lobby.

I'm delighted to see that The Wedding Dance (James' recommendation for klezmer music) is being shown while we're going to be there, but I am not able to buy tickets on the site - when I click on "Buy Tickets" it tries to load but then times out. I've tried it several times. Any suggestions?? Try again tomorrow? Thank you.

EDIT: I went to jegymester.hu. They only offered three of the five performances that were shown on the Operettszinhaz site. Maybe the other two are already sold out! And there appeared to be very few tickets remaining for those three shows (like 14 for one of them). So I went ahead and bought my two tickets. Looking forward to Budapest!

@Christa @James, thanks so much for the reminder to watch for ticket opportunities in late August. I will check online in a couple months. We can hardly wait to immerse ourselves in Hungarian culture. Bookmarked!

Unfortunately performances are so good they sell out with the locals very early. A hint, at the operett, if you get center box tickets you get invited to the parlor at intermission for Champaign and orderves. They put 2 boxes to a table, so it's a good opportunity to meet folks.
