If anyone is going to be in Budapest October 1st or 2nd ..
A great cultural event. https://vagta.hu/news/1082/nemzeti-vagta-2021---osszefoglalo-video
In addition to the race they close down the upper end of Andrassy ut and there is food, music, crafts, etc....

I bought a ticket to this. 🤣

The website and videos are slightly less than clear in English on actually what I bought a ticket to, but Heroes Square and horses simply cannot be a bad combination no matter what. I do love a good adventure! I would go out of my way to avoid a few of the festivals in Budapest but couldn’t resist this.

If I remember correctly I used the Hungarian website and Google Translate. Made more sense. Unfortunately they are now to become a birthday present to my business partner.....

Could have been my birthday present. 🤣

I actually had no problem buying the ticket - and I know where and when to go. That’s really all I need! And I will wave at your business partner…..

Well that looks pretty exciting, but also a bit of concern as we are arriving via train from Vienna the afternoon of October 1- about 2 PM, which would be great, but hotel is in Hero's Square- any recommendations or thoughts on how to get TO the hotel? Was planning to take a taxi, but now not sure...TIA.

Hi Mister E- actually we are arriving via train, Keleti station, I think. It is the IBIS Hotel at Heroes Square. I just got a little concerned if there is a big festival or horse race or whatever it is has streets blocked off, etc.

The taxi will take you in from the North East and you miss it all. No problem. Might add 3 minutes to the trip. I know the hotel, its just a few hundred meters from the Fidesz Central Office LOL (google FIDESZ party). Use city taxi if you have no other preference. You can download their app or call them. (google City Taxi Budapest). But do call and dont just get one off the Taxi stand. You will get a taxi number or a lic plate number if you use the app and you go out to the stand and get in the right one.

Get off the train and face the front of the station (glass wall and big clock). Then look to your right, outside the wall on your right are the Taxi stands.... Find your car. With the app you can track where it is.

Interesting hotel choice, but the Ibis hotels are generally very good 3 star hotels. You will be riding the M1 metro a lot to get to the center of things so get your BudapestGO phone app.

Already have the Go app and transport pass purchased. You are extremely helpful and cannot thank you enough! Load off my mind…looks like we will have a party outside our door for a couple of days, 😜

The app let you buy a pass with a future start date? I haven't even figured that out. I buy it as I am walking down the stairs to the metro.

And the party is 2 blocks away.

By the way, if you want a sort of informal guide and someone that is fascinating to talk to about Hungary and places further east, I can arrange it. The cost? A donation to a worthy charity.

Hi James E- sure I would love the option of a tour guide, if you want to share. On the GO app, you can set the "validity start date" up to 30 days in advance- we just got the 7-day pass, as we will be there for 4 days.

Probably used the app 30 times and never noticed. Just a 2 minute delay that I presumed was to prevent someone from buying a pass real quick when an inspector comes on board. Thanks, live and learn.

I will send you a PM with a few names.

Not only a great cultural event but one connected with history. It would be very interesting seeing the "Hussars" They weren't the only hussars wearing the shako.
