Hi there. My son and I will be in Budapest next month and we want to to to the Terror Museum. RS is lukewarm on the audioguide. He says it can be plodding and you might have trouble hearing it over the din in the museum. He also said that there are flyers in every room that explain in English what you are seeing. But I’m curious about what other visitors to the museum think. Is the audioguide worth the money?
I would get it, but everyone is different.
I would do anything to drown out that din in the museum. It about drove me mad. I doubt I had the audioguide, so I can't say whether it would drown it out. I finally had to leave - too much sensory overload!! If you're not using the audioguide, I would suggest earplugs.
My wife and I visited in Aug 2025 for 90 minutes. We did not get audioguides and did not miss them. The only noisy area I recall is the room upon entry showing loops of video with audio. Trip report: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/trip-report-hungary-aug-2025
