Okay, guess its my turn. So many people have so many good ideas here that I always manage to learn something new. One recent by james.august on a recent thread was the Lado Cafe in Budapest; now apparently the Merry Ladó étterem https://merrylado.eatbu.com/?lang=en (thank you)

No plans other than to meet up with my favorite travel writer: https://europebetweeneastandwest.wordpress.com/

Well, I am definitely jealous of the time with your favorite travel writer. He gives me just the right amount of history along with his travel.

The Roth Museum caught my eye. Have you been? If so, thoughts?
Too early to see what might be on at the Hungarian House of Music yet.

Have you tried Retek Bisztro yet? I think they are in the process of moving to a larger space or expanding their current space.

You know how much I love https://www.porcesprezli.hu/en/, which isn't too far from your flat.

Possibly check out a tour to matyodesign: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrdkFuyi0rA

I know the owner of this business and it's a wonderful experience!

Have you been to the airplane museum in Szolnok? https://www.reptar.hu/en It's on my bucket list to visit.

Christi, thank you. You know its easy to get into a rut when you visit the same place so often so this is a great help.

I always say the worst guide is a local for the same reason.

  • Retek Bistro: Looks like a lovely place. Their website is down right now, but I will give them a try.
  • Porce & Spresli: Website worked this morning, but down now 🤣 but anything involving pig has to be good. And its near a few other places I frequent. It's not too far from the flat, but I am between the opera and Kiraly utca (between Kadarka Wine Bar, the Synagogue and the Lion's Locker for breakfast)
  • RepTár: I read about this about a year ago, but had forgotten. FACINATING! Matyodesign: Actually here is one I know; and worth the visit. Eve will enjoy it.

Since the airplanes interest you, maybe this will be a hit for the next visit: https://vasuttortenetipark.hu/en/home/

And this, although I did it once, but could not do it now given what is going on in the world: https://www.coldwarparkbudapest.hu//product/tank-driving/t-55-driving.

James, we really enjoy Pörc & Prézli. Some evenings they have live Hungarian music on the main level. We took our Hungarian relatives here and they gave their stamp of approval. (Note that the daily lunch specials are just for local workers only.)

Pörc & Prézli is the kitchen (at least they used to be) for the bar across the street: Captain Cook. They have THE BEST burger in all of Budapest.
I've not been to Szolnok yet, but it's on the list.
The train museum looks like a blast!

One more thought James - are you a Formula 1 fan? The Hungarian Grand Prix will be running when your'e there. Tickets are less expensive than other races and it's not the sexiest track in the circut, but it's a classic.
