MAV Ticket Site

My wife and I are going to be in Hungary this July and are trying to get train tickets from Budapest to Tihany on the 16th. First, the MAV site wont let me use the graphical seat reservation, only the automatic seat reservation. Second, After clicking the reserve button I get this error.

29792: The seat reservation is not possible, because the reservation period has already closed or has not been opened yet.

We have tried using the app as well and get the same error. I checked raileurope and that works but the tickets cost twice as much. Thank you for any help!

First, there is no train to Tihany. Then it might be too early for a seat reservation. Book your ticket to Balatonfüred when ever you want and the seat later. I promise it wont be a problem. I started to say there were no reserved seats but I checked a train next week and there are. Just check back in a few weeks. You can buy a reservation separate from a ticket. No problem. If you are 65 or older all you need is .... nothing actually.

Or I know a guy that will drive you.

I got home and did a bit more playing. Not every train is going to offer seat assignments and not every train is going to offer to let you pick your seat if you do buy a reservation. Just the nature of where you are going. Tihany is great, but gettiing there is ... well ... interesting. Why i hire a car.
