Sometimes I get PMs with questions and if it a question with some personal implications or odd detail, or we have reached a point of detailed refinement, then that’s fine. But doing this sort of thing where it is helpful is a lot of work and if it’s a broad generality that can maybe help others, I am going to answer on the forum.
Someone wanting to know where to use their Marriott points for a somewhat basic hotel. All I can do is talk about locations as I haven’t stayed in any of them. And even at that the answers are full of personal bias.

- Courtyard by Marriott Budapest City Center: “City Center” is sort of a subjective term. It’s not real tight to the sightseeing but if you need a Marriott this is the one I would do. It is well connected with the M2 and 4/6 Tram, between the two the sights of the city are not terribly inconvenient. The neighborhood itself has some interesting things to see as well; like the NY Café.
- Moxy Budapest Downtown: I didn’t know we had a Moxy. These are sort of young but fun basic hotels. Usually good prices. This one is on Kazinczy utca in the heart of the party district. My choice is I was 25 and single.
- Four Points by Sheraton Budapest Danube: That’s in District XIII and there is a lot in that District that I enjoy but wouldn’t be my first choice for a first time visit. You will spend a lot of time underground in a metro.
- Millennium Court, Budapest - Marriott Executive Apartments: A few feet from Vaci utca (ugh) with high prices and tourist traps and not much redeeming quality.
Luxury & Heritage Properties
- W Budapest: The one from this list that I would chose based on location alone. A newer 5 star on Andrassy ut. It used to be the Drechsler Palace built in 1886 by the Railroad retirement fund. It was converted into the ballet academy by the commies. So much of the interior was destroyed over the years that most of what is inside is new. But the inside is very attractive and the outside is stunning.
- The St. Regis Budapest: look beautiful, but I have never been there. I would picke the Matild Palace first. Not a great location for getting around.
- Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Budapest: One of the most beautiful hotels anywhere. Not a great location for getting around.
- Budapest Marriott Hotel: I am pretty sure this is a 4 star, and it should be no more than that. Sitting on the Danube it has great views, and a horrible building but I understand the interior is better than the exterior. The Intercontinental nearby is better.
- Dorothea Hotel, Budapest, Autograph Collection: The newest luxury hotel retrofit in a wonderful old building. Just off Vorosmarty ter in the heart of tourist heII
