Looking for Budapest lodging and a few local restaurant tips Third week of December

Could someone point us to rental that is pretty central? I like to have a small kitchen, but I am open to hotels as well. We intend on doing a lot of sightseeing. I love history. Also a few local restaurants? Thanks !

I am going to suggest you hunt Airbnb for apartments in District VI within a block or two of Andrassy ut. What I can do to help you, is if you find some that seem to meet your criteria, if you send me a link to the listing I can maybe tell you a bit about the street or the neighborhood and accessibility to transportation and food and sightseeing.

For hotels, also look in District VI. Not that there are not other good places, but District VI is pretty much a sure bet. District VII is pretty much a sure disaster unless you are under 30 and like to get drunk till 3 am. District V has wonderful tourist places, but all tourist and and at tourist prices. But there are exceptions to everything I just said ... except Distrct VI.

Yes, it is. I liked the location a lot more than I expected to. Right by Oktagon for easy M1 metro and 4/6 tram.

Hi,

I just returned from Budapest on November 12, 2024 and I found these restaurants were excellent (I made reservations in advance and suggest you do the same):

1) Menza - https://www.menzaetterem.hu

2) Urban Betyar - https://urbanbetyar.com. If you enjoy red wine, order a bottle of the 2011 Bock Capella - it is 60% Cab Franc, 30% Cab. Sauv., and 10% merlot. I've been to Bordeaux, Burgundy, Chinon, Napa, Sonoma, Alexander Valley, the Finger lakes, Montalcino, Barbaresco, Barolo, and other appellations and this Capella may be the very best bottle of red wine I've ever had. It is wonderful.

3) Ket Szercsen - https://www.ketszerecsen.hu/en

All of them had menus in English and staff that were fluent in English, and all were comparable to any fine dining/bistro that you'd expect in America.

Good luck.

Urban Betyár (urban outlaw) is on a street that is a good example of how Budapest is coping with increasing tourism. The character and nature of what Budapest is isn’t just found in an old town district .... it continues for miles and miles and miles. So, what to do when a zone begins getting a bit crowded? Renovate the next two streets over and keep moving out. Október 6. utca had very little of interest to a tourist or appetite on it not long before COVID, and the buildings needed a lot of love. Now it’s a great area to explore.
