Looking for awesome duck/goose dishes

Hello:

I LOVE duck (but not foie gras) and juicy goose (too bad many places make it dry). Since duck is a big component in HUngarian cuisine, I would like to visit at least 3, if not more, restaurants that serve great duck/goose dishes.

What are your recommendations? I am not interested in wine. Budget-wise, it doesn't have to be super cheap or ultra expensive. Taste is the focal point here. I will stay in District 13, but will travel for great food.

Thanks!

I have a couple of places that I like for goose and duck. Its hard to find a local restaurant that doesnt have one or the other on the menu. But you seem to be a connoisseur; and with my simple palate I dont want to lead you astray. And the less foie gras you eat, the more for me.....

Hey James, I am not a foodie, but I love to eat. Any suggestions are welcome.

I've had delicious roast duck at Marvelosa, Lánchid u. 13, served with red cabbage and potatoes, the meat was falling off the bone tender. Quirky interior, not too far from the Castle Hill funicular on the Buda side. Oh, and the fresh apple cake for dessert....

And not very far from there, closer to the Batthyány Ter subway stop is Kacsa ((Hungarian for duck), Fö u. 75.

khrystia, thank you. Adding them to my list of places to visit next trip.

Wasn’t until i looked it up that i realized I’ve been to Kacsa. Very, very nice place. And on an interesting street just a few blocks from a notorious prison. A good example of how inexpensive fine dining can be in Budapest.

Well, excluding foie gras makes this more of a challenge.

Rosenstein is the single best traditional Hungarian restaurant of the country with a Jewish-Hungarian cuisine, where duck and goose roasts are heavily featured.

Kádár Étkezde is a historic canteen with a splendid homely fare. They have daily specials, Wednesday's being 'ludaskása', a Hungarian vegetable risotto with (unfattened) goose liver and roast goose bits. They are lunch-only.

Kacsa Vendéglő's name is 'Duck Restaurant' in Hungarian and have a duck specialty menu.
