In looking over the forum, I haven't noticed anyone discussing a visit to Lillafured, near Miskolc. Based on the reviews and photos it seems to have many of the "Rob's greatest hits" requirements. Its in a beautiful looking forested region, its cheap, there is a lake (although artificial), there is a cool train to get there from Miskolc, and a nice, elegant looking hotel to lend a certain European charm to the town. There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of things to do there, but the surroundings look really nice.

Don't forget the caves too!!! And the castle in Miskolc. Sort of touches on my favorite things to do as well, but despite that; never been there. Going to try again later this year. Started to a few times, but always ended up someplace else. If the Robs list has a tiny bit larger than average budget take an overnight trip to Slovakia. I think you will be amazed. Hits all the Robs list points and bats a thousand in the process.

James, hope you get there soon and can report back to us about your time there. I may have to add Slovakia to my list of travel research if it has those magical attributes.

Slovakia is more fun than chasing Steelhead on the Feather.
The only problem is that it requires a car. Either a rental or a guide or a driver. I'm spoiled so I hire drivers.
