Lake Balaton first week of October 2026

I imagine you have the hiking to the wineries all worked out?

Tihany for a day (or half day). Fairly short bike ride. Or not a terrible walk. I can spend a day there. But at least a half day. First week of October has good possibility to be beautiful.

Day trip to Gyor. From where and how? It’s a long way from Balaton. Maybe 6 hours on a bike. Couple of hours by car.

Keszthely and Festetics Palace: The map says 4 hours each way on a bike if you don’t stop. Maybe that’s a good thing. I really don’t know.

Veszprem & Herend Porcelain factory. Couple hours each way, that works I guess.

Possible boat trip. I’d find a jacuzzi for the legs after all of that. Actually I would be in a hospital. Ahhh, to be young again. G-d bless you and have a blast.

I have not worked out hiking, winery or restaurants for dinner, so I'd be open to any suggestions.

I've been to a few wineries in the region but can't imagine hiking from the front gate to the house, so I am no help. I do know an excellent winery guide who knows the estates and owners, but I know her well enough to know she's not hiking either. Some of the wineries have amazing accommodations special dinner nights and gatherings.

Mary, the lake is sort of at half its normal level. Not real pretty right now.
