Itinerary help for a short visit to Budapest in Nov

Good day,

We will have a very short visit to Budapest in mid-Nov. We will arrive in Budapest on Monday morning and leave for Vienna on Thursday. So we will have only 3 nights and 2.5 days in Budapest. This will be our first trip to Budapest and hopefully there will be more in the future.
I would very much appreciate help in planning out our itinerary so that we will have the best usage of the short time we have. We will be staying at Hampton by Hilton City Center.
I assume that Nov is a low season. Which places would be still recommended to have reservations in advanced?

Thank you!

You should check out Mr. E's page (if you read any post about Budapest, it's likely he has commented). It's excellent. I will only add that Budapest's Christmas markets open on 11/17 (I think this is accurate for this year), so if you're there then and have an interest, that's something to do.

Low Season? I guess thats correct, but the Christmas Market keeps getting voted best in Europe (four years now) so that draws in the Christmas Market tourists. But the city is large enough and the tourism is still proportional to the size of the city that in terms of being crowded high and low seasons dont have a huge impact. In terms of cost, hotels will be a bit cheaper, but the city is already half the cost of Paris so you got a good start on savings already. Your hotel. Interesting choice. I walk past it a few times a week. Always sort of liked the look of the lobby. Pretty nicely located for tourism and for reaching the Christmas Markets.

I am guessing you arrive about mid-afternoon on a flight from the US? I can probably dream something up for you.
Also guessing the date of arrival is the 18th? I hope or the next week, I hope??

Thanks for the quick replies!
Yes our flight will arrive mid morning from NA.
Unfortunately our dates are before Nov 17th (will miss the famous Christmas market)!

Okay,
Monday I would make Basilica, Chain Bridge and Buda Castle District day. Its all walking there, but you can take a bus home if you want. That should fill the day. https://maps.app.goo.gl/qXoc1wTvNB1snTeZ6

Tuesday could be the riverfront day. That would be to walk to the river than take trams.
First leg once you reach the river: https://maps.app.goo.gl/99K9LQUoDGroUEU79 This passes the Parlliament. Get a tour. But the tickets now.
Second leg:https://maps.app.goo.gl/opXpgC1boL2gg6S96 (for the views)
Third leg (again for the views) https://maps.app.goo.gl/6Ys6stSJfqSdvjv47
Fourth leg on to the Great Market Hall https://maps.app.goo.gl/dAbuvEJhifLSMMe17
Fifth leg on to the Dohany utca (great) synagogue https://maps.app.goo.gl/wJ52vUZGqvpgdN489
And on to your hotel https://maps.app.goo.gl/t8bPpxGhFWHXba9h9 Google wants to show it all walking but truth is you can take the tram one more stop and reduce the walking a bit.

Wednesday could be Andrassy ut day.
Opera House tour, House of Terror, All the glorious architecture, the bath house (gotta try it once). Then if you have any particular interests in history or museums or ???

Wow many thanks Mr. É!

The details of your suggested itinerary are very helpful! I will start making some reservations accordingly.

One of the reasons that we chose Hampton by Hilton is because of I have HH points. However I can still switch the hotel. I saw your post about Up Hotel. Would it be a better option?

No, its not a bad location at all. Just never met anyone that stayed there. But always thought it looks sort of nice. If you are getting a deal on it, then you will have $$$ for other things to enjoy the trip.
