We are driving back from Eger to Pest. Am wondering if there are interesting side trips worth the diversion on the return back to Pest?

There's a royal palace in Godollo. I haven't been there--or to Eger for that matter.

I have also been to none of these. But in addition to Godollo, although further out of the way, there’s the village of Hollókő that looks interesting and Szentendre.

Driving Eger to Pest, but didnt say where you were coming from?
Lots of wineries around Eger, Hollókő (not terribly interesting when I visited), Miskolc, Lillafüred, Jászberény out close to Eger. Gödöllő on the way back into town.
