Hungarian folk music

We will be in Budapest for 2 days before our cruise begins and would love to hear some live Hungarian folk music. Any ideas other than dinner cruises — maybe at a show, public square or a restaurant? All ideas welcome. Thanks!

A few years ago we had very good meals at the friendly Hungarikum Bisztró . A gentleman played the cimbalom. We returned later in the week. It was relaxed and convivial with excellent dishes. Reservations were necessary.

One of my favorite Hungarian restuarants is: https://www.porcesprezli.hu/en/

They have live music performed by professional musicians and the food is delightful. It's near the basilica and just a few blocks off of Andrássy út, making it quite easy to get to. Be sure to make a reservation.

Across the street is my favorite pub: Captain Cook. I know you have your favorite burger and this is mine. (and the Soproni is cheap)
The P&P kitchen supplies some of the dishes for Captain Cook (fav: gulyas).

MrE - when we were there in September, Lázár u was finally open through Hajós u and the fence in front of the Opera was gone. What a view! We'll most likely be at the HGI again in September so I'm looking forward to seeing the street improvements.

Christy, I am almost at the point where there is a 50/50 chance I am in town no matter when you show up. Wait till you see the Drechsler-palota across from the Opera. It will be open as the W Hotel by the time you return. Maybe it's time for you to get a "home" in town.

I'm anxious to see the new W hotel. What a fantastic location!

As for property in Budapest, we've talked about that quite a bit. My husband is working on his citizenship too.

I'll keep you posted on our September dates.

JU - thanks for letting us take over your topic. Please report back after your trip; you're going to love it!

We enjoyed the gypsy music at the restaurant Kehli Vendeglo (1828 building).
