We will be staying in Budapest prior to a Danube River cruise and would like a recommendation for a hotel close to the river port.

If you are staying more than 2 nights the river may not be the place to be. If you are only staying 1 or 2 nights you are maybe making another kind of mistake.

Well it's hard to give good recommendations without knowing your budget or tastes, that said...we stayed at Verno House Budapest, and loved the place. Great location, terrific service, helpful staff, sumptuous room, dazzling breakfast spread, compelling spa...it was nice enough we had to pull ourselves away (the risk of staying in a nice accommodation). Not exactly cheap but at the end of three weeks in southern Italy, it sure felt good. I don't know where "the river port" is but assume it's on the river, and this place was within walking distance of the river (but not "on" it).

David is correct of course. His hotel is in a nice location. The ones I listed range from about $150 to about $600 a night and except for the D8 face the river. Near the port? There is no one port. Depends on your boat company. They park along a 3 mile stretch of the river. The Marriott and Intercontinental are both within a short walk of most boats. But if you are worried about that I presume you are just spending one night? If you are doing three nights you need to look at the list on the other thread.
