FB reminded me that it was 5 years ago today that I first visited Budapest because I wanted to see the country my grandmother came from in 1899...at first I wasn't at all sure that I was going to like it, felt so different from Vienna where I had just spent 5 days. I came via train and followed James' advice to get forints at Keleti and then call City Taxi and was promptly whisked away to my hotel near the Nagycsarnok (Great Market Hall) and it wasn't until after I successfully made my way on the metro to the Museum of Applied Arts, walked across the Szabadsag hid and then found some toltott kaposzta and a Dreher beer for dinner that I realized I had fallen completely in love with Budapest. Since then I have returned annually and hope to continue that tradition for a very long time.
I can only smile and wish you many, many more anniversaries in beautiful Budapest! Your enjoyment and love of the city shines through every trip you have taken and posted about there. Again, wishing you many more wonderful trips to Budapest and Hungary in your future!
I can understand why you love Budapest, and especially with your family connection to it. Happy citi-versary and many, many more!
Happy anniversary! When are you going back?
Christa, I will be there in 21 days, I will go some place special and have a drink in your name; maybe 2 ...... or 3 .....
Chani--hopefully next May as usual to see my storks and if I can get the date right I'll be there for the wonderful Museum Festival, usually the 3rd weekend. I need to see other towns, too--thinking Debrecen.
James--hmmmmn, I wonder if I know where you'll have those drinkies :)
Hmmmmmmm, maybe. It will be good to get back. It's been almost 5 months.
Christa, happy anniversary! We are currently in Budapest and because of you & Sir James we too have fallen in love with this enchanting city. We will say Egészségére this evening to your 5 year anniversary and many more years! We are enjoying every precious moment. Köszönöm. ;J
The only other place that I know of that elicits this sort of responce is Paris.
🎉 Boldog Budapest évforduló !
(per Google Translate)
Very grateful to you (as well as James, Fred, Sam et al) for sharing your wisdom and enthusiasm. I hope to be going a few weeks (!)
Hope? Well look for me then as I land in 2 weeks.
Great, hopeful/probable that I will make it there - a few variables including work. I might start another post with question about lodging, ie hotel vs Airbnb.
Plenty of both and at good prices so you can concentrate on location in town, then find one that suits.
Hope we could see some of your trips to Budapest and in Hungary.
Me my family and friends watching your programs for decades, but the only program we seen from Budapest is from 2004.
We like to see some updated programs from Hungary since your grandmother is from there..
Thank you for all your efforts.
