I am meeting a friend in Budapest for a long weekend, and we'd like to get Italian one night. (She lives in Hungary, and we were originally supposed to meet in Rome but changed our plans, so decided to bring Italy to us). I've done a bit of a search online, and through this forum, but would love some ideas of a place to try. More interested in pasta and a good wine list than secondi. Doesn't need to be fancy, just good food. Thanks!
I haven’t been here (and wouldn’t be the greatest judge of the food anyway) but I do have this place on my “one day” list. It’s been recommended on the forum a couple of times in the past and has good reviews.
Caffé GianMario. https://maps.app.goo.gl/qsZZrP292GM6yHFQ6?g_st=ic
This is generally accepted as one of the top 3 or 4 in the city. I've been a couple of times and while I am no italian food expert, it was among my best dining experiences in town over the last 20 years. The neighborhood and the walk to the neighborhood are excellent as well.
Thank you both for the suggestions! I will update with any recommendations when we get back.
So, I just got back from meeting my friend in Budapest, and wanted to report that we didn't end up eating Italian food at all! We went to a very good Hungarian restaurant the first night, and ended up doing Georgian food at Hachapuri the second night. It was excellent! One other thing I was impressed with Hungary is the number of good craft beer places. That was a wonderful surprise.
Hachapuri is one of my favorites
I will get back to Hachipuri this visit or in October.
Try this too http://apacuka.com/ the courtyard is beautiful, the food very good, the lack of tourists spectacular and the location among less than refined Budapest is impressive. But not far from Andrassy ut.
It's Monday so it wasn't busy and they threw me out at 10pm and closed. I forgive them.
