Going to Budapest this summer? Something to consider

Something to consider if you are planning a trip to Budapest this summer in July.

350 thousand spectators, about 100 thousand of whom are foreigners, are believed to come to the FINA World Aquatics Championships between 14th and 30th July, 2017. The biggest sports event in Hungary for all time will have a considerable effect on tourism as well. Full article at link below:

Yes, it will be something alright. Prices for accommodations will be higher if you can get accommodations at this point.

I hope they don't do what happened in Kyiv for the Eurovision contest. I was going to go, but then I discovered the hotel that wanted about $100 a night last year wanted over $1,000 a night for Eurovision.

You wouldn't catch me in Budapest those two weeks. I sort of suspect that if the number is 100,000 total, then at any given time the number will be less as this thing drags on for two weeks; but still nutty. I have a couple of friends who have picked up some part time work as result. Its going to be good for the economy. There might be some benefit in being there before hand as the town will probably be spruced up a bit. Afterwards??? Might be a bit messy. Who knows. Good catch Joseph.

That 100,000 figure is just the expected foreigners. 350,000 is the spectator number expected to swell the body count for that period. Yes, I should think hotel rooms would be sparsely available.

We are waiting for 2018 to visit. Not because of the World Aquatics Championships but because we already have commitments for 2017.
I am hoping that at least some of this is broadcast on U. S. or Canadian television. We both love watching the competitions, but do not enjoy the crowds that go with it.
