Having just watched Season 1 of the Empress, I am considering a visit to Godollo Palace while in Budapest in early November. I understand it is easily accessible by HEV train from Budapest. Also the Lazar Horse Park is close by. Are these worthwhile expeditions? I am also considering visiting Szentendra. We only have 3 1/2 days in Budapest. Which of these would be recommended given the time we have. First time to Budapest.
1 I haven't been to Lazar but its the better part of a day if you do go; and you only have 3.5 days. https://budapestguyde.com/day-programs/lazar-equestrian-park/
2 The Royal Palace of Gödöllő is a shorter trip and while its interesting and beautiful it isnt an OH WOW! sort of destination; especially with 3.5 days.
3 Szentendre is a solid half day and for me worth the time even in November; if you decide on this, let me know and I will try and walk you through the train ticket issues
4 And let me know if you are arriving into the Budapest airport from another European destination because there is a nice option of Szentendre.
5 I promise you, with a little research (I like the Eyewitness Guide to Budapest - Amazon) you will run out of time before you are tired with Budapest.
The answer to any question of what to do depends on you and what means something special to you. That being said, I am finishing up 2 weeks in Budapest and not running out of things to do and see.
TexasTravelMom is absolutely correct, I can easily spend 3 1/2 days in just one bar and feel like I had a great trip.
Thanks all! Seems like staying in Budapest for the entirety is the best bet, and maybe carving out time for Szentendra. We have plans to leave Budapest on the 8th and travel to Vienna. James E, I have all sorts of highlights and notes in my Eyewitness Guide to Budapest, and of course have made notes of your comments - you have been very helpful to my research!
