Fuel prices in Budapest for Serbian drivers

Hi all,

I need some help regarding the fuel (Euro Diesel) prices.

We arrive in Budapest tomorrow from Belgrade, Serbia by car but I can't find accurate information.

I found that drivers from Serbia (and Slovenia) can fill up petrol and diesel at subsidized prices of 480 forints (1.22€) per liter, which are valid for Hungarians because

"If fuel is officially priced (hatósági áras) in a foreign country, the car with the registration number of that country can also fill up with fuel at the official price in Hungary, provided that the car with a Hungarian registration number can fill up at the official price there."

It also says that the list of countries concerned will be published in a decree by the foreign minister (should have been already published since this article is from May 27, 2022.) but I can't find anything more.

I would much appreciate it if someone can provide accurate information regarding this or perhaps refer to some resources.

Many thanks in advance!

I am not going to assume the article is fully accurate (even if it is on the internet); but it does state:

In other words, where there is also an official price for fuel, and it applies to Hungarian drivers, cars from that country will be able to benefit from the HUF 480 capped price. This means that, right now, cars with Serbian and Slovenian registration plates may form an exception.

And makes no mention of the nationality of the driver. I sort of read the discussion of Hungarian drivers (and the unspoken Serbian drivers) as an "assumption" given the registration of the car, not a fact in law. Worst case scenario is you end up spending an additional 15 euro to fill your tank.

Thank you so much for your willingness to help!

Been there, and the price for Serbian drivers is the same as it is for all foreingers. There was an idea but the EU reportedly disagreed so Serbian and Slovenian drivers cannot buy fuel at the subsidized price.

On the day we left (Jun 24) we poured V-Power (better, more expensive) diesel at the Shell for 803 huf / l (approx: 2€). However, the price of diesel was 750 - 800 huf/l (1.75-2€) on average. I'm not sure about petrol, but it's a bit cheaper than diesel.

Budapest is still gorgeous, as always!
