I feel like I should know this but it has been awhile since we’ve flown internationally…… we are flying from Boston through Amsterdam to Hungary this week, Delta then transfer to KLM. We will each have a checked bag. Do we have to collect our bags in Amsterdam to clear security and immigration and then recheck our bags for the KLM flight? I reached out to KLM but received a response not related to my question.

No, you won't have to pick up your bag in Amsterdam. Your bag will go all the way to Budapest. When you check in simply verify with the live person agent checking you and the baggage in. Pay heed to get your claim check and read it. It will list BUD the airport code for Budapest on it above AMS for Amsterdam.

You don’t have to collect your bags, but you will need to go thru passport control at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, because that’s your entry point into the Schengen Area.
