Hello all,
I understand the forints are still the main currency in Hungary. Is this still the case? How accepted are euros?
Forint is the only currency in Hungary. Some businesses accept also Euro but the exchange course is in their advantage, not yours. If you want to save always pay with forints.
Do take forints form the ATM and plan to use them for smaller payments or wherever credit cards are not accepted. If a vendor accepts euros, then they will set an exchange rate favorable to them. If hotel prices are shown in euros that's for the convenience of communication, but should still be charged in forints.

Not too sure about that. If you were quoted 100 euro through some booking agency, etc, or if you paid in advance or paid a deposit or ..... then I suspect your card will be charged in Euro. Especially true I suspect with chains like K&K for instance. Forints aren't terribly unstable, but many lodging enterprises operate in euros to add a layer of predictability to their cash projections.
Other than accommodations you will do better with forints withdrawn from a BANK ATM.
