Exchanging money/bringing money

Will be in Budapest for 2 full days before leaving on a river cruise that ends in Amsterdam. I plan to use my credit card as much as possible to avoid additional fees and for ease of paying. Do I need to bring local currency to Hungary or should I just use my debit card at the ATM upon arrival at the airport? I guess the same question regarding Euros since most of the trip will be in countries using the Euro. Also, how much would you consider sufficient to have "in my pocket" for convenience purposes. Appreciate your inputs!

There are bank ATMs all over town. You will either need no cash in Hungarian Forints, or something will come up and you will wish you had 8.000 forints (about $20). Of course if nothing comes up, you are leaving Hungary with 8.000 forints in your pocket. So wait for something to come up, then go find an ATM (google maps is good for that).

For Euros since you are doing this on a river cruise ... if it were me (and who am i anyway), I would have 20 euro in small bills that I got out of the first convenient ATM I saw along the way.
